About Us

The Lemont, Ill., refinery is a strategic supplier of transportation fuels, particularly in the upper Midwest. The refinery has crude processing capacity of 167,000 barrels per day (bpd) and manufactures several grades of gasoline, diesel, jet fuel and high-quality hydrocarbon solvents used in the production of paints, adhesives and coatings. The refinery has a long history of supporting the needs of the upper Midwest. The original Lemont Refinery was built in the early 1920s with a crude capacity of 25,000 bpd. During the years of 1968-1970, the new Lemont refinery was constructed on 1,100 acres, partially located in Romeoville, Ill., with a capacity of 135,000 bpd. Additional expansion has brought the refinery to its present state as a modern, well-configured 167,000-bpd facility capable of refining heavy, sour crude oils into high-quality finished products. CITGO Lemont Refinery benefits the surrounding communities, not only as a major supplier of petroleum products, but as a major employer, taxpayer and good neighbor. CITGO annually contributes more than $350 million to the local economy through salaries, benefits, goods, services and taxes, and that does not include the dollars employees spend in the areas when they shop and eat.
